Expert commentary : Paul Cordonnier is a post-impressionist artist born in Orléans who was a pupil of Gerome and Ferriet. He will then follow the courses of Henri Jamet in Gargilesse and will become after his meeting with Paul Alluaud one of the best painters of the school of Crozant (Between 1850 and 1940). Like the artists belonging to this school, he is particularly fond of the landscapes of the Creuse valley. No wonder then that the artist combs with so much talent, his countryside, its small villages and its magnificent shores. Paul Cordonnier also likes to paint the landscapes of Brittany and Seine et Marne. Using a soft palette, the artist gives us back the light so characteristic of the places he discovers and at the same time reveals to us a soothing nature which, despite the absence of characters, breathes life. In his prints, he uses the same subjects, but the use of techniques such as etching or engraved wood give his works a particular intensity that could be described as expressionist. Paul Cordonnier is also one of the artists of the Loire school.
