Expert commentary : Jean Pierre DUBORD is a French landscape painter born in 1949. He comes from the Rouen school and is internationally known for his post-impressionist style. Dubord, like all the artists of this school, is particularly fond of subjects representing Normandy with Rouen, the banks of the Seine, the Normandy coast but also the countryside. This will not prevent him from painting during his travels in Brittany, Paris or Venice. Dubord has a real personality and his style is easily identifiable in the sense that it synthesizes the contributions of the two generations of artists of the Rouen school of which he is the worthy heir. We find in his works, the influence of the first post-impressionist generation of the end of the 19th century rather turned towards the pointillism of Seurat (1859-1891) like Albert Lebourg (1849-1928), Jules Léon Lemaitre (18580-1905) or Charles Angrand (1854-1926). The second generation being rather turned towards the fauves like Maurice Louvrier (1879-1954) or Narcisse Guilbert (1878-1942). Dubord, like the impressionists, gives great importance to the reflections of light which transform the real tones and color the shadows. In his composition the sky is often preponderant, blue dominates his paintings and the human being always present merges with nature. The artist preserves the strength of the colors by juxtaposing them by touch without mixing them beforehand on the palette, which gives his paintings this vaporous and vibrant effect. The artist's works exude a serenity and tranquility that soothes the viewer, revealing the most beautiful aspects of nature.Lucien Gondret has always admired nature and the places that surround him (the Vexin) and that he discovers during his travels in France (Normandy, Brittany, Alsace, etc.). His favorite subjects are fields, forests, seasides, old villages and old buildings. He depicts his native Vexin for which he has a particular fondness using a light and soft, sometimes vaporous touch that could be described as impressionist. His landscapes of the Vexin, always putting nature in the foreground, are in fact reminiscent of the style of Camille Pissaro. For Normandy, the touch is thicker and more expressive and is reminiscent of Maurice de Vlaminck when he depicts his country roads and old houses. For Brittany, the artist multiplies the impastos as if to better represent the roughness and the unique character of its seasides. Lucien Gondret is an artist with multiple influences whose great talent is to show us, like the realist artists of the 19th century, the soul of the landscapes. The common point in all his works is undoubtedly this ability to restore the unique effects of light that he observes in nature.
