Expert commentary : Claude Frégère's touch is vibrant with effervescence, blending bright, contrasting colors in a figurative style with Expressionist and Fauvist influences. The work is characterized by sketched forms with a free and dynamic line, creating a composition rich in detail and movement. The pictorial approach recalls an almost childlike spontaneity, where elements of the scene such as musicians, urban architecture, and cultural references intermingle in a joyful and chaotic harmony ranging from New York festivities to the Provençal sun. The use of color and line gives the scene a festive energy, capturing a lively and often musical moment.
Biography : The artist, originally from Le Havre, settled in Clamart, and his work oscillates between drawing, gouache, and oil. A member of the Salon d'Automne in 1981, he was awarded the silver medal by the Salon des Artistes Français in 1982, then the gold medal in 1991, before joining its committee in 1994. His career led him to the biennials of the prestigious salons: Salon du dessin et de la peinture à l'eau, and Salon national des Beaux-Arts, thus asserting his mark on the French artistic landscape.
